Description

Nikon's previous 70-200mm f/2.8 lens suffered from a lack of sharpness towards the edge of the images, but the replacement, the Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II, offers excellent image quality. Like most lenses, the sharpest images are a few stops from the maximum, here around f/4. But the f/2.8 aperture, available at every focal length, is an excellent tool for shooting in low light or creating background blur. The lens is a popular choice among wedding photographers, but that zoom paired with a wide aperture is ideal for a number of different applications.

When it comes to lenses, you often have to choose between versatility and price. The lens sits at over $2,000, though covers a wide range of focal lengths. Nikon's high end primes offer a wider aperture, but switching lenses often isn't an option when photographing a fast moving event or if you simply only have room to bring one lens along. Speaking of bringing lenses, this one is rather heavy to tote around. But, the Nikkor 70-200mm F/2.8 offers some of the best image quality for a versatile telephoto lens.
