Aperture priotity mode

13 years 3 months ago #20054 by Number 7
As I have pointed out, I just got my first DSLR camera - Nikon D90 with a 18-105mm lens. The guy from B&H who also recommended me to come to this site, was telling me to learn to shoot the camera in the manual and semi manual settings like aperture priority mode.

I have the camera in front of me and trying to figure this out. Can someone please explain aperture priority mode, and how is this different from shutter priority or manual mode? What about program mode?

I know these might be really basic questions, I'm learning and do appreciate your help!

Simples :P
Set your camera on A - you set the aperture the camera sets the speed.

set youir camera on S - you set the speed and the camera sets the Aperture

set your camera on M - you set both aperture and speed

practise, play with it

Photobod set you in the right direction. I might add, as you look through the viewfinder in each mode try rotating the wheel and watch what happens to the values as you change a setting. It's particularly important to watch the exposure setting as you change each or both variables. Try taking a series of pictures of the same thing changing on variable at a time. All the information for each shot is stored so you can go back and see what you changed and how it affected the result.

Excellent advice. :agree:
It is fun to do that with many setting. I did the one with white balance setting in the snow (albums) and to was revealing.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

If you are working in aperture priority mode your depth of field will change. this means that the area that is in focus in your pic will change.

I'm already a DOF Master, I don't need that site.
