Playing with extremely shallow DOF

My sunflowers are starting the wilting process, so that means the camera comes back out. I hand held these at a high ISO, I am not sure how I feel about this series, please give honest and blunt critiques.

4 and 5 seem best to me. I'd love to see more on the lines of 2 and 3, maybe try to make the green, or part of it, the drawing point by focus.

I agree #4 stands out the most, but they are all good.

You are doing what I ask students to do in my week 6. Work the subject till you get it. The first try isn't always the best.

One thing to point out though, to stop the idiocracy from spreading...

Bokeh is best applied to a lens, as in "this lens has good bokeh". It does not mean the same thing as shallow depth of field. ANY lens can make a shallow depth of field. Bokeh relates to how pretty the out of focus is.

An image with good bokeh shows how well the lens is designed and built.

Thank you, John.

In week 6 I ask my students to make a masterpiece. It's amazing how many do.

They also know WHY and HOW (from weeks 1-5) they were able to achieve it.

It gives them the confidence they need to succeed.

Looks like you are on a winner with number 4 MJ, I can see why, blown up to a poster size this would look great as wall art, its a good series, I do agree with Matthew that this is more a series on DoF than Bokeh. :judge: :judge: :judge:
