The caption makes the image .... maybe having the f/stop higher would add to this image ... but that's personal likes type of stuff anyway ... f/11 or so maybe?

Nice shot! I think the background is fine the way it is. It separates the subject from the background more. I like the composition and, of course, the title is cool.

Thanks for your comments. As you know, I am new to this forum and am finding it very useful and fun. There is a wealth of educational stuff here, which is what I need. I have always wanted to get in photography and the most I was able to do years ago was to process my own slides in the darkroom ( bathroom with towels around the door). Fast forward to recently when I purchased a Canon Rebel XSi to do graphics for our business web site and ads and my interest has been revived. I currently have three "kit" lens but am looking hard at getting a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM. It may be overkill for the body I have but it should help me expand the hobby. The comments about the squirrel shot, I was just proud to get the shot. I was working hard at following the rule of thirds in the composition and I had the camera on semi-automatic due to my inexperience. I am beginning to experiment and learn more about aperture and shutter speed variations and having fun learning. Good forum for folks like me.
