Ha! That's what I shoot. It's no DSLR, and it has some serious limitations, but it isn't point & shoot unless you keep it set to Auto mode all the time. I spent 4 hrs in a wildlife preserve this morning and I didn't point & shoot once.
Case in point (from a couple weeks ago, not this morning):
Nikon P510 was hand-held but braced against a convenient sign post.
1/500 sec / f/5.9 / 4.3-180 at 180mm / ISO 500.
Post consisted of just a crop and a little blue added to white sky.
