My bird gallery, please make a critique.

Hi everyone.
I'm new to the forum and recent to the world of digital photography, although had some experince with an analogic camera ( but not much). My knowledge in photography is self-taught.
Since the middle of last year I have been creating a facebook page with some of my photos.
My gear is amateur level, but I have nothign to complain about!
I hope you can enjoy my gallery and let me know what you think (the good and the bad).
Thanks!
Nuno

You did a very good job of photographing a bird in flight!!! That is NOT easy to do! :judge: As far as Critique, maybe a wider crop? Give the bird space on the left to fly into?

What gear do you own?

Also, be sure to click on 'Insert' so your photo will show up in your post! Fixed if for you! ;)

Nice shot!

I agree with Dori that the composition would be better if you gave the bird some space on the left to fly into. But birds in flight are a real challenge ... and I take what I can get. ;) You did well.

Hi,
Thanks for your answers!
I'll take them in account. I think you are right.
Also maybe to try to preview what the bird is going to do sometimes works and can help in a good picture.
My gear currently is a Nikon D7000 with a 70-300mm AF 1:4.5-5-6 , 10 year old lens. And hope for sunny days ;)

Please visit my facebook page for other bird photos:

You took all those photos on your Facebook page with that lens? Nice work either way just wondering if it was all done with that lens and camera combo.

Nuno, I have a newer version of that lens! I love it, amazing what it can do!

Yes!
All bird photos were with the nikon 70-300mm f/4-5.6G lens.
Except the last 2!
I just bought an old 80-200mm 2.8 AF (Non D version) but in good condition. Still trying the lens...
I must tell you I live near a Natural park so I have an easy access to a good spot for birds!
Thanks once again for the comments.
As for the new lens all I can tell right now is that the few pics it took look charper and have a more "real" colour rendittion.
Its a really heavy lens so best with a tripod (but much brigther). And so its not so flexible to carry arround and for moving subjects.
Hopping to have a chance to take more pics soon.
cheers!

I agree with the others about giving the bird space to fly. I really love the bird's reflection in the water. Sweet!

Nice shot. The 80-200 is a beast was thinking of it but got the 70-300 VR which gives good images. The Kenko 1.4X PRO 300 Teleconverter works great if you need a little more reach.D7000 is awesome.Looking at the Sigma 50-500,120-400 and the 100-300.

It must be great (the 70-300) !
The 80-200 I got is the 1992 version so its not so good for wild life, the AF is a bit slow and its a very heavy lens.
The image is nice :)
Yes I want to try a teleconverter. Lets see, my budget is not so good right now.
I tried one Sigma 50-500 once and was lot very impressed...
I think you would make a better deal with a second hand nikkor and the TC.
But its just an opinion.

I've got the 80-200 F2.8 D ED 2 ring version & it is one sharp lens, heavy as all get out, but quite capable...Great capture of the bird in flight (BIF)
