Nikon NIKKOR 50mm f/1.2 Lens

Help me decide please, my 50mm died some time ago, and I never replaced it.  Anyone using the 1.2 manual?

(Older f/1.2)

I think an AF version can be easily and cheaply
bought used everywhere and that would help
you get full advantage of your D700.

I've never wanted more than my AF-D but if I did, I might get a Zeiss or the Voigtlander 58mm.  I've heard that the G series Nikon 50mms have CA and more distortion than the D one so.  YMMV

I owned both in the film days.  The 1.2 was really fast but optically inferior to the 1.4.  The 1.4 was a classic.  Assuming the modern lens uses the same basic formula (it probably does) the 1.4 would be the way to go even if you choose an older manual lens.

IMO go with the f/1.4, much better lens vs the manual and slower lens

nikon 1.8g over the older ones.  I'd look at sigma's as well.

I just sold my 50mm f/1.8 D, but if I were to get another 50mm (or 58mm) it would be a Zeiss 50mm or Voigtlander 58mm.  I've been eyeing the Voigtlander for about a year now.

If you want AF, the 50mm f/1.8 D is hard to beat on the low end, has less CA and distortion that the f/1.8 G.  I've heard great things about the Tamron 45mn too, but the AF isn't fast. If you want fast AF, you should go with the G.
