Lens question; Whats the difference...

Whats the difference between the Sigma:

70-300mm F4-5.6 APO DG Macro
and the
70-300mm F4-5.6 DG Macro (NON-"APO")?

I guess I am asking.....what is APO? Since the one lens has it and the other doesn't.

The APO edition is the newer of the two lenses and is an upgrade of the older lens. The APO coatings on your lens give an overall improvement to the sharpness of the shots you can get, this is very helpfull at the longer end of the lens (200-300mm) where it generally goes abit softer.

Thank you. So APO is a good thing.

APO means two out of the three primary wavelengths are focused on the same point. Super APO (or Super Achromatic) means all three colors have been corrected.

The APO designation is usually found on long (telephoto) lenses, as that's where the problem shows up the most.
