Me too....Although your collection is a bit larger than mine...I didn't include my folders, Polaroids or box cameras in my list.

Nikonjan wrote: My friend is unhappy with her Canon D5 and some L lens that aren't sharp and was talking about changing to Nikon. I told her that is too expenive to start over to just go to a dealer to see what's up with her gear.

I've often notices a lot of comments regarding all brands of cameras and lens about soft focus. I think it has more to do with the person holding the equipment than the camera/lens. Many mention soft focus at long distances and I suspect they never heard of a tripod.

My former boss's admin complain about fuzzy photos until I loaned her a monopod. Suddenly her photos were MUCH sharper.

I use Canon DSLR Equipment however I do have a Nikon FM2 film camera left over from film days that I still use on occassion. For many years I was a Nikon user until Digital where I switched to Canon.

Both manufactures are top runners and keep the improvement of their equipment advancing. Comptetion is wonderful.

Before digital I used a Nikon F2. My first digital camera was a Nikon CoolPix 5000. I am now using a Canon Rebel T1i.

Ok, I just went through and counted the first camera that you said you use in your list. It is close
Nikon 13 Canon 10 Didn't include all the extra cameras. I have a Canon G12 put it's not my primary.

I have shot Canon since I picked up a SLR. Started with a Canon EF-M, moved to a Elan 7, then onto the D-SLR 10D and now my 5dmii. I have seen the soft focus issue Ninja speaks of, yet when I do MANUAL focus it's all beautiful. Makes me work for my macro shots. Although when photographing my kids it is a bit annoying, cause they don't stay in one place but I usually don't have an issue with tracking, it's there but it's rare.

I am curious about Nikon and would love to try one out for a day and see the difference but I believe both are very good.

Macro you pretty much have to use Manual focus. I know I don't use a tripod as much as I should. I'm lazy that way. But if you shoot fast enough depending on your lens you get fairly sharp and you always need to sharpen in Photoshop anyway , RAW needs everything done to it.

The ol' hammer analogy holds true when it comes to film cameras (which you seem to own a lot of). Not so much with digital.

Film "sensors" haven't really changed in decades upon decades. Sensor technology changes yearly. So a 50 year old camera will use basically the same mechanisms as a 15 year old (film) camera).

A better analogy would be a computer. You can surf the internet on an older computer, you can even edit videos etc. Just a newer better one will make it faster/easier to do the harder things.
