Image posting guidelines?

12 years 10 months ago #108281 by cod
I've been lurking around this forum for a couple of months now and have posted a few comments but today was the first time I've uploaded photos. I've probably missed something obvious but despite long hard looks and various site searches I cannot find any image posting guidelines. I recall reading a couple of posts that mention a file size limit of 2MB, but what about image dimensions? Do any such guidelines exist and if so can someone please point me to them.

Thanks,
Chris

I do not know of any published guidelines like you are asking about. From personal experience I normally resize mine to a 800 pixels on the largest size when I post to the web. I went through the forum and using my pixel ruler it looks as if images posted in the forum are resized to a maxim height of around 490 pixels. I hope this info helps.

Correct. Dimensions I am not sure. If you go over im pretty sure it auto resizes for you. I'll contact alex to get you specifics.

I post the same size in the forums (800px) as I do in my albums and the forum pix seem to be resized automatically. By the way, 800px is more than adequate for your albums as they will about fill the screen area given to them when viewed full size.

Sure, practice makes perfect but, unless you learn from your mistakes, you are only perfecting your ability to fail.

Thanks for the responses, everyone. I gather, then, that the only limitation on uploads is the 2MB file size. I ended up going with longest dimensions of 600-1000 pixels as that seemed to be what everyone else is doing.

Yes Chris 1000pixels on the long side is ideal, thats what I use in LightRoom to resize them and put a watermark on them, its a simple process on exporting them to my desired folder.

I have been using 640 on the long side by habit. I submit 1000 to my club and usually 640 for email. The technical limit is 2mb but other than that just keep it G-rated.
This one (from another post) I cropped sort of panoramic just for fun.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.
