Does anyone know if you can return prints?

I ordered some prints through Sams and I'm not happy with the quality results. The prints are much darker then what is viewing on my monitor. Does anyone know if I can return the prints and get my money back? Or would they reprint for free?

It just depends on the lab and their policies. They would probably be willing to reprint. Keep in mind that what you see on your monitor is only accurate if you are calibrating it.

Yes I know. My monitor is calibrated. I guess I could also call and see what their policy is.

Would them printing in a different color format, then what I save the image as make any difference?

If they are making C prints (regular, chemical, color prints) they want sRGB color space. That's probably also the color space most similar to your monitor. I have never been able to spot the difference between a properly saved jpeg and a tiff or any other image file format. I submit all my files for printing (C-prints) as sRGB jpegs.

If you know your monitor is calibrated correctly you should be able to order prints without corrections, and get them back looking like you expect, even from the econo-labs. Of course there are troublesome labs here and there. Take a look at Mpix.com. I bet their prices are similar to Sam's, and they rock!

I know Costco will so I would imagine Sam's would also. Be sure to indicate NOT to adjust when you order. They often have a default that indicates to automatically adjust your prints unless you say no.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

I agree with John here they have probs adjusted them, they would be a very poor company if they didnt look after you.
