Noob status

When can one get rid of noob status? Not in regards to the forum, but more to do with photography itself. When did you know that you were no longer a newbie to photography?

Recently I'm just wondering when am I going to get out of the newbie stage.

I think it is kind of a personal thing. I look back at my old shots and see improvements. I consider myself a photographer. As to what level? Who knows. In some aspects of photography I am still a 'noobie'.

You'll know when you are no longer a newbie. For everyone it's different. It could be when you start helping others. Or when you see your photos a year ago, are no longer "good" in your eyes.

Never, ever stop learning or trying to improve. Each month, make a small album (print or online) of your best shots. Create a new one each month and after several months, look back at the albums to see your progress. Hint: In the grand scope of things, all of us are "noobs" in a way.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

When it no longer seems new to you then you are no longer a noob.

Do you know all the types of lighting and poses that flatter your subjects? Have you joined your local professional groups to learn all you can from them? How long have you been taking these types of photos? Are you confident with your camera and equipment ? I guess if you answer yes to most of the questions and are making money you can consider yourself less of a newbie.

I have been shooting for 20 yrs off and on. I still consider myself a noob. I have way to much to learn about light and composition that I don't call myself anything but. Plus it keeps m e striving to get better and learn more.

I think every good photography is a noob in some form as there is always something to learn...

I've learnt a lot in the last 18 months, I now shoot in manual more than any other mode, I'm happy with my understanding of ISO/Shutterspeeds etc but still make regualr basic mistakes and still yearn for decent feedback and info on shots I have taken to learn from others (I just wish it would all sink in)....

We can all strive to be better at what we do and how we do it so in essence we're all noobs to some extent :)

I dub thee a non-Noob... There now, how does that feel.

Your new title shall be neophyte first class if you like or perhaps Apprentice third class. The paygrade is the same. :woohoo:

Photography is a lifetime of learning, so you are a noob of subjects you havent yet tackled and a senior of those you have tackled and mastered.
