Lightroom- opinions wanted

I have Photoshop but am wondering if it's worth the money to buy Lightroom? I have a offer for $100 off making it $200 which I do have saved but was going to use that for photo books. Opinions wanted- feel free to be honest.

I know Lightroom can and does have processing capabilities, but to me it's more for cataloging and tracking files. If you need a better way to access and catalog your images, I say go for it. If you are happy with the system you have, I wouldn't spend the money because you already have Photoshop which is a lot more powerful when working on images. That's my 2 cents.

Lightroom 3 is a powerful editing tool as well as a cataloguing tool. The only things I go into Photoshop for now are a few of the cloning/healing tools and layers work. Everything else I do in Lightroom. LR has all the global tools you would expect as well as tools for local adjustments. The best part of LR for me is the non-destructive editing. You don't need to save multiple copies of files with different edits. LR just keeps small files containing the sets of directions for the edits and doesn't bake them in until you choose to export a finished product. I also like the fact that it is designed with photographers in mind. The organization and workflow make sense. Photoshop is all things to all graphics pros and so contains a lot of stuff most photographers don't need and its use is a little less intuitive.

Photoshop is great and I will still keep it but more as a "plug-in" for the occcasional things I can't do in LR, and for others graphics purposes. Lightroom is my number 1 choice for photo editing.

Get Lightroom with PS.

I'm with the rest. I use Lightroom for 80% of my work, setting exposure, black level, contrast, lens corrections, gradients and healing of spots. I only go into Photoshop for more complex cloning, extraction of the subject using the pen tool and complicated things like that. I think Lightroom has become a very powerful system over the years and I don't think you will regret the purchase.

Plus my .002 makes four cents. Maybe its what you're accustomed to, I tried it and find I can do it all in PS and Bridge. Why don't you download a FREE thirty day trial and see for yourself if it has a value to your workflow?..........;)

Why so serious?

I have Lightroom and Photoshop. I use both, just depends what I need done. I truly do not like Lightroom cloning tool, so I will use Photoshop. Both have their reasons to be used. At this point, I would not give up either one.
