How often do you use live view?

When taking photos of still objects do you use it to get a sharper focus? I believe I've read that you magnify the image in the screen to get the focus as sharp as you can get.

Just wondering if people use it.

Rarely. I find it very slow to focus and LV eats the battery alive.

I've tried using live view a couple of times and I actually found it awkward. I can't seem to hold the camera steady and comfortably when it's further away from my face. Perhaps it's just because I am used to using a viewfinder.

On my point and shoot I used it all the time. When I upgraded to my DSLR, I didn't know what to do at first, as there is no live view. lol

It's a must with my old manual focus lenses. Otherwise rarely, and then for precision composition, not focus issues.

I never use the live view on my dSLR. Occassionally I will use it on my point and shoot when on a tripod.

I do use live view to zoom in and focus with stationary subjects. I think its a great method to focus the subject area you want focus best. Focus is crucial.

I'm with the last post - on a macro shot using a tripod, live view with the magnification is the only way to get a really sharp image on the area of the subject I am trying to capture. I sometimes use it when I am trying to take a long exposure shot on a tripod to avoid any shake due to the mirror going up. It is a bit quicker than searching through the menu for the mirror lock up command.

Agree with the 2 posters above me. It's great for macro.

I use Live view sometimes on landscapes when I can't reach my cam all the way (sometimes when I'm in water doing sunset stuff). Funny thing is...last time I forgot that in live view it doesn't AF and I took like 25 OOF pictures.

Only for macro and landscape shots. But then again, I would say only 30% of the time for those shots

Landscape and macro shots when I want to verify I'm focused on what I need to be.
