If you were given $5000 to spend on photography equipment what would you buy?

For those Canon shooters that would buy a 5d MarkII .... hold out, the 5D MarkIII is just over the horizon. Many great features added to the new model.

For me it is glass, glass, glass and more glass. Once you get a solid camera body the glass makes all the difference, along with ability / skill.

I would get the Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 lens (priciy but an awesome lens) and probably the new Canon 100mmL macro lens. I love my original 100mm macro lens, but heck if I have a free $5,000 why not?

Has there been any official information on specs? I really hope they don't leave the same AF in it.

Could the $5000 be used to finance a trip? If so I would use the money to finance a trip to backpack through Europe and photograph everything I saw!

With $5,000 I would probably buy a new Af nikkor 80-200mm 2.8 and a nice ultra-wide, teleconverter tc-201 and then look for a really clean D2x. Excess would be trip money.

It is what it is.

Canon Rumors states that the new 5D MarkIII will have the focus system from the 7D. Which I have and really like (once you get used to it)

I aways said (back when I was shooting Canon) that the 5DIII should have the 7D AF system. It just makes sense.

If they don't improve the AF they're gonna be shooting themselves in the foot. The 5DII's lack of decent AF is probably the major reason why I switched to Nikon.

Other than 10mm focal length, what it is the difference between that lens and 70-200mm f2.8?

Probably a little sharper, I've never used one, 80-200mm is just a really solid old school lens thats built real tough and can be bought new for around $1100 instead of $2,000 +/- $200.

It is what it is.
