Are there more Nikon shooters than Canon? Here are the results from our Facebook poll.

So the camera pride battle goes on! Two days ago we put a poll up on the PhotographyTalk Facebook fan page to see out of these two camera brands Nikon or Canon, which had the strongest number of users?

The results?

We had over a 1,000 photographers vote on this and Canon won this poll with 625 photographers and Nikon came in with just 400!

Now a camera is only as good as the person behind it, so this was just a "having some fun" poll. All you other camera holders, well include you in the poll next time ;)

I didn't know about the poll either, otherwise I would have voted. So what that shows is more Canon users are active on the photographytalk fan page instead of being out shooting. While Nikon users are learning and enjoying their craft.

I don't find it surprising, I definitely see more Canon DSLR users in my area than Nikon. Of course, Nikon users would find it surprising...just like Canon users would find it surprising if the results were the other way around. Kind of the same way that Mac-based Photoshop users and PC-based Photoshop users each just assume they're in the majority.

And so the battle rages on...

In the 20 years I've been paying attention there's always been more Canon users than Nikon users. But if you sort the photographers into groups based on experience Canon's lead is mostly among beginners. Canon does a better job selling to the person buying their first SLR. In the group that's been shooting for a few years the numbers even out.

When I was selling cameras (1990s) I liked all brands except Canon. I was an anti-Canon fanboy. :toocrazy: Even with me trying to nudge folks towards the Nikon and Pentax SLRs I still sold a lot of Canons. They rule the marketing somehow.

I'm not anti-Canon, but I agree completely with HP.

Us older shooters had Nikon F's in our hands for many years. They were the pro tool (along with German, Swiss and Swedish made cameras). So we already had some good F mount lenses and feel for Nikon's controls. Canon won when AF first came out (the EOS-1) but there is no advantage to Canon's AF system anymore. You see a lot of white L glass, but the sports guys, who need fast AF, now shoot both.

Plus you can use really old lenses on new Nikon bodies. Newer Canons require lenses with EF mounts.

But, the new RED camera has a Canon, not a Nikon adapter. If you shoot a lot of video, Canon wins.

I have used both canon and nikon, however i ended up going nikon i like the way nikon controls are layed out and to my hands the nikon is more comfortable, to me its like ford vs chevy its all about personal preference.
