Is there a way to find exact manufacture date on camera and lenses?

With no papers. If you were looking at a camera and lens, how can you tell the exact manufacture date of it? TV's have date on back. Do camera's have any sort of marking?

I'm sure if you called up the manufacture with the serial number they would have that information. If nothing else to verify warranty of the gear.

It just be easier if they put the year, not a code. Most of us have no idea about the code unless we google it.

Auto makers do the same in VIN codes plus a whole lot more.
