"Good ol' days experiences"

Now, pushing 86, I look back on my photography career. My first thought as a youg teenager was "What a great way to meet girls." But soon I realized thre was more to this photography game thanmeeting girls. My dad bought my first camera - an old (even at that time old) Speed Graphic. i started to do weddings using that camera and flash bulbs. I had to buy a suit a size too big so I could carr the film holders and the flash bulbs.

Just one of my many memories from a lifetime behind the lens. Does anyone else have any "good old days" experiences to share? Or even "good new days."

Still young at 86 I see, my fond memory is of my Zorki 4K rangefinder camera, it was my first, It took so much abuse, I dropped it so many times, and it always kept going, never let me down, drop a modern camera now and thats it, well and truly broken

Wow - 86 and still kicking. You go, guy. I'm not that senior yet - won't hit the big 7-0 until later this year - but I do have some memories of my own. My first commercial flash unit was an Ascor with, believe it or not, a twelve volt wet cell battery. Of course, smaller than a car battery, but still pretty heavy to carry off the shoulder during a long wedding shoot. It was one powerful unit, though, I tell you. Could shoot a group of 25 to 30 people in one blast. Glad I'm not still lugging that thing around.

How about stainless steel developing hangers that developed four 4/5 sheets of film at a time. They were done in a 3-1/2 gallon developing tank. The photo world has come along way in the last 50 years!

Yes, I refuse to become the proverbial little old man in the rocking chair. I managed to teach myself quite a bit about computers and then my child bride came along (she's 30 years younger than me) and she really taught me lots.

If you get too old to learn, you might as well just crawl in a hole and pull the dirt in after you. I want to learn something new every day if possible, no matter how old I get.

You look like Gandalf too (without the beard and goofy outfit) which is always a bonus. ;)

Oh, been there and done that and, as my grandson would say, wore out that T-shirt. It does seem like they made camera equipment sturdier back in the day, doesn't it? Thanks for sharing.
