Flickr experience

First off do you have a Flickr account? Is it even worth having these days? I was thinkinng of signing up for one untill I did a Google search on the reviews and was surprised! There are some un happy campers that have used or are using Flickr. But then there are some very good reviews too. It's just hard to seperate fact from fiction with many of these. Then there are some that are just charged up with drama

What are your feelings on Flickr?

I have a Flickr account and my feedback is, it's OK. The 200 picture limit for free accounts turns a lot of people off to their site. You can always pay for a pro account if you need unlimited access. Of course when you talk about having a paid account, then you have to weigh other options, like paying to host your own website instead. Or Zenfolio, SmugMug, etc.

If you're looking strictly at the free account option, I personally prefer Picasa (or now Google+ which integrates with Picasa accounts) for that.

In my view the biggest plus for Flickr is their "community" aspect. But PhotographyTalk pretty well fills that role for me. I like lots of page style options, so I'm on Zenfolio.

I gave up on Flickr the third time I found my photos taken from there and used in online advertising. Once it appeared that Flickr was helping the thieves, and even charging them for the "service", even though I had all the privacy and copyright protection settings maxed out. Photos can be swiped from anywhere online, but it seems to me there are a lot of folks out there that consider Flickr a free stock photography source.

Years ago I had a flickr account. For me it was more just getting involved in their groups, but then my job require more of my attention then being on the net, so at some point I cancel flickr. Haven't been back since. It was just a place for me to show off my pictures, but work still have me pretty busy.

I thought about getting one, but realized I don't post that many photos online to start with. I'm a lurker

Seriously I need to re-size and post some of my photos up one of these days.
