Battery grip?

Does it matter what brand you get? Does a third party battery grip work just as good?

I don't have a battery grip, so I can't answer your question. But I've heard they are really heavy. I'm curious as to how people still are able to shoot hand holding a camera/lens and extra weight from the battery grip?

I've used both a third party grip and one from the camera manufacturer. The third party one worked every bit as well, and was lighter. At first I was concerned because it had a lot of plastic and didn't feel very beefy. But it turned out to be quite durable and the lightweight material was a nice plus. The one I had was made by Targus.

I think mine is a Vivitar. It doesn't seem to add any weight as it isn't heavy at all. It took some getting used to the change in the size and it doesn't like to fit in my small bag but that's ok. I also like the option of the shutter button on the grip but habits make me forget it's there lol.

I use a Zeikos for my Canon. Holds 2 batteries and is rated a s high as the OEM at half the price.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Thanks everyone on your reviews. I've been thinking about getting one, but I saw a huge price difference between the brand name and 3rd party. Was wondering what's with the price difference. I guess not much since 3rd party works just as well.

i bought the Nikon brand MB-D80 i believe it is for my D80. Love it. Dont mind the extra weight... but im a fairly strong guy. What i do love is the extra shutter release, and the extra battery. Makes it worth it.

At the time i didnt see any other "brand name", 3rd party grips. Only 3rd party stuff i really found was on ebay... from china and what not. And i saw that as too much a risk.

For like 50$ worth of savings, i didnt want to risk putting something sub-par on a camera i paid close to 1500$ for. What if there was a short in the battery grip? didnt wanna find out the hard way that the camera couldnt handle the extra voltage/amps/whatever from the second battery if the grip failed.

but i mean... i wouldnt put that much worry into a brand like targus, sigma or other brands that are known for making camera accessories lol
