Donating old camera equipment

12 years 7 months ago #153866 by ArtWagner
I'm picking up some new gear and would like to donate my old camera and gear to a good cause. Something with kids would be great. Even though I could use the money, if I see this stuff I won't get anywhere near what I would like. So donate to a good registered cause for kids and get a tax write off too.

Would you happen to know a good cause like this? Something that is all legal and registered with the state.

Don't know what would be in your area but something like a youth ranch? Boys and Girls Club? Maybe a high school w/journalism and students who are in an economic area that could benefit from donated equipment. If nothing else works out that benefits kids, maybe Goodwill - some stores sell cameras etc. on their shared auction website www.shopgoodwill.com .

Location, location, location. Many camera clubs have programs for youth. Ours received a large donation of antique equipment, auctioned it off, and use the money to operate a program at an inner city community center. We only have used a portion so far since Canon USA donated 17 P&S cameras for the kids to use.
As you "location" on your profile indicates you are on Mars, I don't know any clubs there

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Holidays are coming, keep an eye in your local paper. Many times there listings with drop off locations for donations.
