B&W from the camera or PC software? Which is better?

I'm interested in doing some B&W work with my Pentax digital camera. I'd like to know which will give me better results? The camera's internal B&W setting or shooing in color and using an editing software like PhotoShop later?

I find that the conversion after the fact gives me more flexibility. Photoshop has a number of predetermined b&w profiles plus the ability to adjust the "color" parameters. Doing this means you also have the option of creating a combined color/b&w shot if you choose to do so.

Yeah as the others have said software as opposed to using the cameras B&W mode. If you have the RAW/ACR in photoshop for your camera then you have the option of using the color channel sliders after you desaturated and get the effect you want. That is the one thing I like about ACR is the B&W adjustments. Also if you shoot in the B&W modes you have lost the color adjustments because the information isnt there.

Yes. Just don't De-saturate for black and white. That's a huge no-no.

Doing black and white in cam, is good practice to become more disciplined, other than that, if you're shooting digital..software it is!

I like the fact that When I shoot in colour I then have the option of making a copy in B&W, if I shot in B&W then there would be no choice, so if a client then asked for the shot in colour, I wouldnt have to let them down.

Supposedly, there's not much difference between the two, but I prefer to shoot in color and change to B&W later. Primarily because it's really easy to forget that you set your camera to B&W, then you go out the next time thinking you're shooing in color and - BING! - all grayscale.
