1.4x or 2x teleconverter for Nikon

13 years 3 months ago #17175 by Dave Burburry
I want a teleconverter and was ready to by a 2x but was told I should go with the 1.4x instead as it will yield better picture quality. Is this true and is the difference THAT noticeable? Clearly you loose .6x of distance with the smaller teleconverter.

What's your thoughts on the subject?

Get the x1.7 instead. It's gives you a sharper image than the x2 and is pretty close. ALSO instead of losing 2 stops of light (like with the x2) you only lose 1.5 stops.

Thanks for the tip, I'm looking on bhvideo and what a price difference from USA and Imported model! The USA version is $399 and the Imported is $309. I'm tempted just to get the Imported, there really isn't that much to these that could go wrong? BTW thanks for the tip!

I have a 2x and this thing is just a heavy chunk of glass   I would save the $90 bucks and get the import on something like this.

Mmm the x1.7 isn't that heavy to me. What's the weight difference, do you know?

I have the 1.4x and the 2x I glued the butt caps together and keep them in a small bag. I agree about the 1.7x. I have thought a few times about getting one.
