Tips for shooting an indoor Auto show

12 years 4 months ago #180678 by Photonov
Hello,

Its been a while I have touched my camera and suddenly it seems like I have forgotten it all. There is an Auto show coming up in our country soon and I am attending it as a free lancer. Totally amateur. Just to fine tune my skills.

My equipment: Olympus e520 with 14-42 and 40-150 kit lens.

Was wondering if I could get some tips on what are the best ISO's, exposures, F values etc. I do not have external flash. Would I need one?

Any help or direction will be greatly appreciated.

Mods: Feel free to move this query to the right post if needed.

Thanks
shub

Car shows are fun to shoot, I would shoot with lowest ISO you can get away with. I would have aperture somewhere around f5.6, just make sure your shutter speed is greater than what ever focal length you are working with. 20mm= 1/20 + shutter speed.

Canon 5D Mark II | Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM | Canon 35L | Sigma 85 1.4 | Helios 44M-6 58mm(M42) | Zeiss 50mm 1.4 (C/Y) | Canon 135L | (2) 430EX II

Lighting at indoor car shows tends to be fairly crappy at best. You'll probably be shooting at a higher iso. I agree with Sawyer about shooting at f5.6. The biggest head ache will be trying to get a shot off with tons of people around. I will say though, "the bigger the camera/lens, the more people move out of the way". Best of luck and happy shooting!

Nikon D200
Nikon 50mm f1.8D, Tokina 28-80 f2.8, Nikon 75-300, Sigma 18-200, Nikon SB-600, Nikon SB-25, Promaster triggers

Auto Shows are not very bright. They have dim lighting. So you will need to use your flash. The on board flash will do just fine. Watch your shutter speed, you may need to up your ISO a bit.

Out here in India - there would be a lost of jostling around. they wouldn't care! :)

So f5.6 is one thing I caught well.
ISO - 200/400 should do?
Lighting: As y'all said - could be very crappy! On board flash should do.
So what WB setting would be ideal?

Thnx.

I would keep the camera white balance set to auto. What camera do you have?
