SPCA, which you can do throughout the year.
I had volunteered my time to the SPCA taking pictures of the animals and posted those pictures up on petfinder.com to help them find homes. I enjoyed my time at the SPCA, not only did I get to take pictures which I love, but I also got to play with the animals, more so the dogs since I got them out of their cages and into the open yard to take their picture, so might as well play with them too. I had a blast photographing the animals.

Don't just donate your time during the holiday season, donate your time year round. Like crystal mention the SPCA or local human shelter. A senior citizen place, I am sure the staff wouldn't mind you coming in taking pictures of certain events going on, especially when the senior citizen has their family visiting.

I volunteer throughout the year shooting various walk and bike events for the National MS Society. Absolutely great group of people and they really appreciate the help!

Most charities, especially those that sponsor walks, runs and such, are usually excited to have volunteers to photograph their events.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

SPCA is a good one. Portrait packages for fundraising auctions and event photography for various charity organizations. Military families.

You can work with soup kitchens or other charity events that are aimed at getting deep wallets to show up for donations. These event's always have photographers floating around taking photos. Donating your services would be one less expense the sponsoring organization would have to pay out. Just another way to give back
