Camera bodies made of metal?

Odd question: are the Nikon camera bodies made of metal or plastic?

An Irishman is not drunk as long as he can hold on to one blade of grass to keep from falling off the world.

I'm going to go with plastic. There are probably some metal parts, but I think most of it is plastic.

Depends on the model. Same for Canon.
Someone with Nikon experience can answer where the change occurs in models.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Nikon makes both. The advanced bodies like my D200 have a metal frame. See DPReview camera reviews for an answer about a specific model.

Yeah, my D200 has a magnessium alloy body. Not sure if that was continued to the D300 and up. The D7000, D90, 80 and down are all plastic iirc.

Nikon D200
Nikon 50mm f1.8D, Tokina 28-80 f2.8, Nikon 75-300, Sigma 18-200, Nikon SB-600, Nikon SB-25, Promaster triggers

That is correct. Everything below 100 series cameras is plastic.

Ah not 100% accurate.

The D7000 has a partly metal body. The top and back plate are metal. The rest is plastic.

Here's the skeleton of the D7000 to prove it.

The D90 did have a plastic body though (the D7000 replaced the D90).

Here's the D300 skeleton to show a "fully" metal body.
