Getting the motivation to get out into the winter cold to take photos?

I don't mean to be lazy. But do you have a hard time getting motivated in winter to go outside and freeze your butt off in hopes of getting a great shot? It's seriously cold out!
What are you doing or how are you staying warm during cold winters?

As someone that's an all weather motorcycle rider, I do pretty well when it comes to staying warm. My Killamanjaro jacket is ideal for photography. It's really warm and has about a zillion pockets, both large and small. The jacket is "waterproof", too! They're almost like a photographer's vest, but a full torso version that's warm!

I just jump into my full snowsuit rated to -40, with mukluks and full gauntlet mitts and head for the dog sled races. Camera and kit is stuffed in the inside pockets. but, that's only for the cold, cold weather people.

I can relate fully. And rather than bother trying, I lock myself in my room with the heat on, bury myself under blankets, and wait for Spring.

I don't do cold.

Normally I don't have a problem as have cold weather gear so can stay nice and toastie and the light out when it's not raining is stunning at this time of year...

This year however there is one hell of a bug going around that is causing fatigue so it's not the willingness to go out but the ability...

I see there is another sane person on this site other than me.....B)
I do all the eskimo stuff, but every time I go out, my hands or feet get cold and the shoot is over. I have spent half of a national debt on gloves, electric socks, hand warmers, toastie toes, etc, nothing keeps me warm. The key is the wind, if its -20 I can go out and stay reasonable alive, however if the wind is blowing, me and mister Smirnoff remain INSIDE.....:P

Why so serious?

Not hard for me to find the motivation. I find fresh fallen snow very beautiful to take photos of. That within itself is enough to get me out of the house to shoot. Not only that, the photos you can capture (if you sell it) can someday be part of one's home. I shot a picture of a single tree, it's B&W, it was capture during a windy snowstorm with 2ft of fresh fallen snow. That photo is in my gallery right now and it had many interests and one person who said they would buy it.

True, Crystal. If it snowed here more it would be easier to get out. Plain cold, dry, windy weather make sit harder to force myself out.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

I like to go out after snow, but when it is cold and driech I stay inside. Nothing inspires me then.

I don't do cold either. We haven't had nice fluffy snow, instead it's been freezing rain, sleet, and the ever popular wintry mix. Today it's fog, mist etc. I'm planning to spend time more on scanning negatives, running lumen prints thru some fixer, etc. if I motivate to do even that! - I feel like I'm in hibernation mode.
