That Clicking Noise

I occasionally work as an assistant to a local wedding photographer. Recently we visited the wedding site to get a few test shots and get a feel for location. The future groom actually came up to me and asked if I could switch off that clicking noise.

It made me smile, but then I thought - I wonder why digital cameras still make that clicking noise?

That is a riot. All that terrible "clicking".
Mirrors must flip up and shutters must open and close. That must be one nervous groom.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

I agree about the nervous groom. It's such an accepted sound around cameras that it's generally just taken for granted. However, I'm told there are Canon models that allow you to shut off the clicking noise if you want.

Like Baydream said, a DSLR can't really turn off the clicking sound because of the way they work.

A P&S can, because they don't have a mirror.

You can shoot in silent mode in some cameras, which is less noticable.

What a hoot, never really thought about the shutter noise any more - just an accepted part of the job- especially when standing with a group of photographers

You can turn off the click and shoot silent. I know some wildlife photographers do it because it can disturb birds. The option is somewhere in your menu, or you can look it up in the instruction book. On my Canon 20D they called it Silence the Beeper. You probably have something similar on your camera.
