Yeh, this one is lame. I always get "which camera can I buy to take photos as nice as yours?".

I personally hate it when people call camera's toys. They say things like: "How's your new toy?" or something like that. I don't PLAY around when I take photos. It's fun, but it's not a toy. It's a tool. :pinch:

Well, mine are all toys. The only ones I looked on as tools were supplied by the boss. B)

"Pics", as in "taking pics" or "snapping pics". Somehow the word "pics" makes me think of a person whose understanding of photography is just as complete as the (abbreviated) word itself. I take pics with my cell phone camera. I do not take pics with my DSLR, I create images.

Doubly annoying when spelled "pix".

Strangely I don't mind it when it's someone who clearly knows what they're doing and who makes good images. But when it's the person who truly is just "snapping pics" with an iPhone and thinks it's exactly the same as what the pros are doing, I can't stand it.

I guess I'm irritating on a daily basis with my usage of pics AND my moniker having pix within it but I picked up the term from my Father, a landscape photographer, and never really considered it as derogatory toward Pro shooters such as I may be. Actually I laughed when I read RMeyers post about the terms.

Well, you definitely fall into the category that I mentioned, of people who can use the term without sounding annoying:

The last part of your post Roy explained how you don't mind it from a photographer, but you have a point that it's a term used a lot, but I can relate to Rob's. I just came up w/something at the time that was a short version of ice hockey pictures. And just haven't come up with anything better since! I'll need something eventually that's more of a broad term but so far I've just used a variation of my initials...

Yeah...I didn't want to offend anyone and hope that I didn't! To me it seems like the explosion of the term "pics" coincided with the proliferation of cell phone cameras, and I would always hear people using "pic" for what they took with their phones. That's why I don't like to use the same term for photos that are actually good! (And yours certainly are  )

LOL Not offended at all. I 've been using the term since I was a kid and it's just kind of grown on me to the point where I don't think much about the use anymore.
