How to high speed photography with a water balloon?

How are those photographers getting the water balloon photographed with the balloon is popped and the water explodes in the photo? There are some creative photographers out there. I'm guessing this must be triggered with motion trigger? Would that do it? I don't think sound, because the balloon wouldn't make a pop sound when popped if full of water.

If you search on here you should find threads on high speed photography since this keeps coming up... or go look up Harold Edgerton at MIT (strobes are used to freeze action at high speed); others have used and/or updated his techniques.

Like Sharon said, 1 or 2 strobes, a water balloon, something to hang the balloon from, a remote to operate the shutter and a stick with a needle on the end. The rest is really getting your timing right. Oh, take preactice shots of the un popped balloon to get your exposure right.

Hey Joves, I love Nikon Cafe haha. I used to spend all of my time on the lens lust section but for some weird reason the government block the site at work...

Well the government will do that with their computers, I hate to say it but they should block a lot more. I think they should be strictly networking through stand alone system for security.
