Would you buy a refurbished camera?

1st post here. I have a Nikon D200 and working on a limited budget, but found a guy who is selling refurbished camera bodies from his house. He has a Nikon D90 that he is selling for $650.00.

How can I tell how much use this camera has had? Also would you buy?

I bought my Nikon D3S refurbished. My canon 5d mark I as well. Buy through adorama with confidence.

Both cameras were in new condition.

:agree: If buying refurbished, make sure it is from someone like adorama or KEH that will offer a warranty and be there if you need them. An individual may be good but do you know WHAT he refurbished (new shutter, etc.) and will he be there is you have a problem in a month?

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Thanks for the information guys. I will check them out. So would you buy from someone from Craigslist who works from his house selling refurbished gear?

I'm not aware of what was refurbished or what would need to be done to be considered refurbished?

From a large company that offered it with a warranty... Yes. Small company or your guy working from home...no.

Have you dealt with KEH before?

What they said... Factory refurb or a professional shop yes. Individual working from home only if I knew him well and had confidence in his work. Even then - no.

I've heard a lot of good things about KEH as well, great people.
