What makes a professional photographer a professional?

What makes a professional photographer a professional? Is it money? Is it work published? Is it doing it for a living?

I jokingly describe myself as either an amateur professional or a professional amateur because I think I still have aspects of each. Photography is my favorite hobby, much of my work is for my own pleasure, yet I have work published and sold. So which am I?

When the last candle has been blown out
and the last glass of champagne has been drunk
All that you are left with are the memories and the images-David Cooke.

I call myself a Occasional Pro. I work for money if someone asks me to. Otherwise I'm much happier doing it for fun. ;)

I think it would be nice to make some $$ at photography, but everyone has told me it becomes less fun at that point.

"What makes a professional photographer a professional?"

When you develop the ability to communicate with a photograph the situation in front of you after processing it in your heart and mind....for a price.

It is what it is.
