What's APS format?

I'm looking at a used camera that says it has APS film format? What is that? Is it still a digital camera?

Depends on whether it is a digital or a film camera. APS in film cameras came in cartridges that were not opened when the film was developed. It was approximately 28 mm instead of 35 mm. Many digital cameras use an APS sized sensor, smaller than 35mm and therefor multiple the effect of a lenses focal length. A 100mm lens will become a 150mm or 160mm in impact.
If the camera is an APS film camera you will probably not be able to find film or processing for it. I have one that is basically worthless.
APS digital is another story.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

APS stands for Advanced Photo System and is a format for FILM cameras. It's a Kodak film marketed under the tradename "advantix.".

You're right, drescher, as far as you go. You might add that APS film format has 3 image formats:

H is for high definition - 30.2 x 16.7 mm (4"x7" print)
C is for classic definition - 25.1 x 16/7 mm (4"x6" print)
P is for panorama definition - 30.2 x 9.5 mm (4"x11" print)

It is defnitely NOT a digital camera - these are FILM formats only.

APS is Advanced Photo System

Also known to us ex-lab techs as PITA Pain In The A$$

All kidding aside, this was a film format introduced in the 90's made for user convenience. Instead of getting packets of cut negatives, the negatives would be stored inside the canister. The film was smaller than 35mm however, so they image quality wasn't so great, and enlargement possibilities were limited. The onehour labs hated this stuff, because you needed badly engineered equipment to retrieve the film for reprints and developing. Often times the negatives were damaged in the retrieval process.

If you're considering getting this camera, I'd advise not to. The film is getting less available and more expensive every year, and labs don't support the format much anymore.
