I like both. Colour makes the second one, but the texture makes the first one.

If I have to choose I'll go... colour.

As is, I prefer the color version, algae & moss notwithstanding. However, the B&W, with proper tonal range would likely be superior. As-is, it's rather flat.

Clarification: by tonal range, I mean that too much of the image for me is in mid-range gray; very little at the white/black ends. I don't know that this (quick) effort is where I'd end up, but I like where I'm going with the contrastiness and the blacks. $0.02. Trying to tweak out the fern leaf to brighten it (without blowing it out)is the challenge.

That's the problem I was running into. Looking good though. I'd like to see where this ends up.

I like your edit more overall, but the leaf is kinda lost in there now.
