What's your response to "Digital killed Photography"?

Sounds like a closed mind assumption to me. Think about all the doors that have been opened because of technology.

Digital imagery takes the 'Art Form' onto a higher plane.

Just as 45 RPM Vinyl records gave way to music cassette's, then onto CD Rom's and DVD's.

35mm film photography has also given way to the digital age of camera's.

At least with a digital camera, when you pass through an X- Ray security check point at an airport, the memory card like a hard drive from a laptop, is completely unaffected by the X-Ray's.

Your film camera loaded with film, would become X-Ray effected and all your pictures would become garbage material. That's why X-Ray film bag's were developed, which were lead coated as to protect your film's and film inside camera when X-Ray'ed at the airport.

Is that your own soapbox, Ed, or did you just rent it? :)

Digital killed Photography is like saying, "Video killed the Radio star".

I don't think so!. You could even write a song about it!

Consider this:

Photo = Light. Graph = Writing. So a photo - graph is light writing. When you consider original photographs were in black and white (or Sepia) you can see its a literal translation from the Greek.

The word 'Photograph' can be applied to any camera format: 35mm, 6cm x 6cm, Ideal format (6cm x 4.5cm) and of course Digital.

As they all need is light to produce an image and without light you are just working in the dark!

There are more people in the community taking up photography as a direct result of the compact Digital camera.

It's very compact, sits in the palm of your hand, easy to store in a ladies handbag and so easy to use. Young mums, Grandparents and children of all age's can use them and produce great shots.

The big bogie with 35mm camera's was the loading of the film so it transported across the back of the camera OK.

So many people had problems and were very disappointed when none of their 'Happy Snaps' had been taken, due to the film not transporting correctly.

I do hope this has thrown some light on the subject of discussion.

:thx:

+1. Nothing is more reassuring than the sound of one's own voice, regardless of the organ that emits it.

This reminds me of those who say music sounds better on records vs CD's

In my opinion digital opened a new areas of photography. Film still has a place as far as I am concerned and again in my own opinion is still superior in its overall image quality.

Maybe superior is the wrong word, but it is very hard to duplicate.
