Would you take your camera gear with you during camping trip?

Not talking Motel 6, keep the lights on. I'm talking tents and no running water for 2 weeks. Oddly enough, living in Colorado I have yet to go on a serious camping trip. There are 7 of us who will be doing a 2 week camping trip next month. I'm trying to decide if I should bring my camera gear with me. I keep having flashes of something bad happening to my gear, so I'm on the fence. Would you, or have you before?

That's a no-brainer. You want photographs? Bring the camera.

I have all weather camera for trips where I will be outside like camping. That said I do have friends that will bring there gear. I have a TG-1 that I love. I put a complete review on my blog awhile back at www.dancedadphoto.com/blog/2012/10/olympus-tough-tg-1-ihs-by
The TG-2 is out now but there are not much differences.

What a chance for pictures, I would take it no question.

You will not be judged as a photographer by the pictures you take, but by the pictures you show.

Always is my answer. You just need to be prepared by carrying extra batteries, and cards. You choose what lenses you think you will need. Also what is your definition of camping? Some call going to the forest campgrounds camping. Or are you speaking about hiking in to an area as a base camp? That is what I do when I speak of camping. Also how much weight can you personally carry on such a trip? For two weeks just for food, and equipment you are looking at around 100lbs minimum. Well at least that is how it has worked for me on a two week excursion. So first how do you define camping?

Dennis had the same questions as I. Camping and hiking are different, of course. I'll make MY reply simple and to the point. Yes, I'd take my camera.... ;)

Why so serious?

:agree: Lugging is the issue.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

For a car camping trip, I would bring my DSLR gear. If it was a backpacking trip, then I'd bring a high-end P&S that has manual features and shoots in RAW (Canon G12 in my case).

I wouldn't think twice about it. Just bring the camera body and one or two lenses. Make sure to bring solar charger or car battery charger.
