Traveling and left battery on charger at home!

10 years 11 months ago #284486 by Martha
We have been traveling now for a few days and I just noticed my spare battery isn't in my camera bag, which means I didn't take it off the charger! It's been 3 days we have been gone and we won't be home till Saturday. Do I need to worry about the battery overcharging and blowing up? I'm concerned about this and of course the risk of starting a fire in our house. Please let me know. I've left message already for neighbor to call me when they get home for work. So I'm hoping they can get key from our secret spot and get inside to unplug this.

Thank you in advance for your help!

I believe both the D70 and D300 chargers are smart chargers that will recognize when the battery is fully charged and reduce power to the batts accordingly. While manuals never recommend leaving the batts in the charger it is very unlikely that a problem will occur.. I have inadvertently left my D300S and my old D70 batts being charged for several days without a problem a number of times. If getting it unplugged by a neighbor is simple to do then it can't hurt but I wouldn't be worried about it for just a couple of days.

:agree: I have left my battery on charger a couple time for a few days. No issues.

Most chargers will go into a trickle charge after charge is completed

I've done this with my main camera battery where it was left on charger over the weekend. No issues.
