Sensor cleaning question

10 years 9 months ago #287749 by Tuscany
Assuming you don't see any spots in your photos, how often will you have your sensor professionally cleaned? To be specific on what I'm wondering, is if sensors will get a hazy film build up on them. Kind of like the inside of your cars windshield if left alone for long time. You can see though it, but when cleaned you can see a big difference. I'm sure this is a lofty question, so I'd be interested in hearing what you personally do yourself?

:thx:

I only send my gear for a CLA when needed. Don't try and fix something that's not broken. A couple times I got something on the filter in front of the sensor I couldn't get cleaned in a few tries, so off to Nikon!..... ;)

Why so serious?

I'll usually clean myself or if I have the camera in for service, then I'll have them clean

I did do it once on my D70. Black spot kept showing up in every photo. Had to read up on it but finally got it, have to be gentle cleaning the sensor. At first I though all I had to do was remove the kens and blow a little canned air inside, nope. Mirror has to be raised. I don't remember what I used any more but it was put on very gently with a soft cloth. If you can afford to have it cleaned, that's the way to go. Doing it myself was foolish!
