Will you accept a tip from a client?

I'd like to know what is your opinion accepting tips from clients? Do you or do you politely pass to score future business points?

Um, yes?

That would indicate the customer is really happy with the service, enough so that they are willing to pay more than what they are being charged. I hardly think accepting that would be insulting; in fact, declining might be exactly that.

Other choices: having a strict "no gratuities" policy specified in your contract, or accept a gratuity and keep that in mind next time they book a shot. Perhaps you'll throw in a complimentary 5x7 or 8x10. If it's a large gratuitiy, to show your appreciationg for their repeat business, give them 10% off their print order or something like that.

However, when I actually have the situation arise I'll better know how I'd handle it. Until then it's all hypothetical.

:agree:
Gary is right on point. I would accept without reservation. You usually see a tip when people think you have gone beyond what they are used to service wise, so I take any tip I have even received as a compliment. I have been given many in my years of pumping concrete, mostly from smaller companies, and home owners, because I am not afraid to get in the mess and help out. I have received a part of one companies early completion bonus, because the super said I was a big part of them getting it done early, that was a couple of hundred. So yeah take it and be glad you are doing a good enough job that they think you deserve more.

I saved a wedding many years ago, the photographer failed to show, and the father of the bride asked me to shoot the ceremony. I stayed with it right through the reception. He payed me what the contract called for, and a very large tip, which I turned down once, then accepted on his insistence. The best part was I didn't do any post processing, it was done by another with a lab. (Note to IRS, this was all a lie!). Strangely, the original photog was steamed at me for not getting a cut, even though I was a wedding invitee, not hired to assist even.....What a world!!
So yes, take a tip if offered....

Why so serious?

I'll take any sort of tip, knowledge, cash or a chicken  OK, not the chicken but the first two.
