Photographers "Elbow"?

Either I'm getting old or I'm getting old :side: . Is there such thing as a ailment for photographers? Like tennis elbow? After I have been holding my camera up for anything more than 30 to 45 minutes, my right elbow starts to hurt. Later in the day, I have pain in this elbow when I go lifting up heavy objects. This ONLY happens when I go out shooting for couple hours. I have tried stretching and this doesn't help.

I would greatly appreciate any insight on this.

Its probably arthritis. Advil, Oxycodone, vodka and rest is what works for me..... :P

I had a similar problem riding horse's years ago. Turned out to be arthritis. It ate away the balls of my left knee and in time spewed out cartilage. Get cortisone shot's not and take 800 mg of IBUprofen a day. After the third cortisone shot the VA is going to replace the knee. Have a cousin that was a barber all his life and he got it in the shoulder's from the way he held up his arms all the time. Have you tried wrapping the elbow? I have braces for both my knees. the other knee got tore up in a horse wreak.

Welcome to the wonderful world of geriatrics. I know now that when I injure myself it hurts more than it used to. I have been in construction the majority of my life, and I feel the years catching up, it is just how life works I guess.

It could actually be tennis elbow! That's sort of a misleading name since most people who are diagnosed with tennis elbow don't get it from playing tennis. My dr. told me I had it and his first question was whether I played an instrument. I play guitar and had been playing a lot at that time, and at his suggestion I reduced my playing time for a little while until the pain went away.

My right knee acts that way when it gets cold out. Arthritis. You might want to get that looked at.

Yeah, no kidding! More easily injured, hurts more, and takes longer to heal. :(

Get it checked out. Arthritis can be pretty easily confirmed or ruled out. It could be tendonitis (which is what "tennis elbow" is), which is being aggravated by repetition of the motion that caused it in the first place. Tendons will heal ... slowly ...with rest and anti-inflamatories.

Bingo! :agree: I just went through the tennis elbow thing myself, got mine at work. I really like Effron's prescription, I would like it better if you swap out the vodka for rum, but, I digress...

P.S. Shooting small primes instead of the big tele-zoom can help, also using a tripod is never bad idea in my book.

It is what it is.

It's called denial for me! Boy, don't want to admit, but as my wife keeps reminding me, I'm getting old! I think it's time to make a visit to see the doctor. As long as I don't get the walker and prescription to tennis ball wheels yet!

The earlier you get that looked, the better. I'm talking from experience.

You're probably dying. Go see an oncologist.
