Damage SD memory cards from dropping them?

I have managed to drop one of my SD memory cards a couple times where it dropped 5 feet to hard wood floor. Works good, but wondering if this can damage a memory card?

My guess is no, that won't hurt it. I've dropped them in camera and out, and never had any issues relating to impact....

Why so serious?

These cards don't weigh much, and are pretty durable. With that said I wouldn't make it a habit of dropping.

Canon 7D w/grip, Canon 40D, Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS L Canon MPE 65mm f2.8 macro; Sigma 70-300mm f2.8; Sigma 150mm f2.8 macro; Sigma 8-16mm f4.5-5.6

Very doubtful. Plastic is tough and that's not very far for something of such small mass to fall.

I agree with everyone who has replied - SD cards are pretty durable and dropping them shouldn't be a problem. However, some makes of SD cards are also notorious for being corrupted and not being able to access your images. I carry my spare SD cards in a little aluminium wallet built just for SD cards so they don't get damaged from being bent etc.

Yeah I have done that with both SD, and CF cards, and they went through the dryer as well. You can throw them on the ground and not break them. They are Solid State and built for abuse. Just try breaking one in half with your bare hands, it takes a lot of effort to do it.

I've dropped mine and have managed to wash mine in my pants pockets and after letting it dry had no issues with it working correctly.

The only one I have been able to harm was when I pushed it into the card slot on my laptop. My thumbnail caught the seam a split the case. Still got the data.
Lesson learned.

Anyone know if a memory card can be damaged with a magnet?

No. Not unless it is a magnet capable of damaging you.

Yeah so true. You can even put them through the X-ray machines at the airport.
