Photographing Funerals

I found a short thread about photographing funerals but it didn't really answer my question. I live in an old Italian neighborhood and from time to time I'm asked to photograph the funeral so photos can be sent back to Italy to the family. So far I've been playing it by ear, shooting what I feel is the best under the circumstances. Of course, I must maintain a dignity, but I don't feel I'm getting enought of the ceremony. How can I document the entire thing without intruding?

Shoot without flash and with a telephoto where possible.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

:agree:

Also it's not the best time to say: "Right now, everyone BIG SMILES". I'm only half joking.

Every once in a while there is one, that well, as Mark Twain said, "I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it."

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

I couldn't do that. Too personal for me.
