Did Weather channel pull Peter Lik? I have not seen any new shows in some time.

Yes he is gone, and they have replaced it with even more mind numbing tripe. I actually wish they would just cover weather.

His show was canceled. Now they have a bunch of other unreality shows on.

Any idea of what he got paid? Makes you wonder someone like that, how much they require to stick around? His prints go for on average (guessing) $100,000 each? Could the weather channel even afford him?

Was this the same guy who did the long exposure shots of the Milky Way? I don't remember the guys name, but I always thought that was kind of a cool thing on the weather channel. If it's the same guy, i kind of liked that show. Doesn't seem like he's too popular around here though. :(

There needs to be more photography related shows, seriously why isn't there a legit photography show? They have all those other idiot reality shows :toetap:

No it is because of his spot on the WC that his prints went for big money partially. I always though his post work was over too much for my tastes. Now it could be that when he got popular he did ask for more money, as this happens often with flash in the pans. They get some semblance of fame, and then promptly bite the hand that got them there. Not saying this is what happened, but I have seen it before.

He was with some. I just was never impressed with his work as stated above. I actually watched as much of one show I could stand. It was one where he was in Canyonlands and brought one lens, and was whining about maybe not making a certain place at the right time. He never really carried his gear, and would only make appearances to do so. It was typical unReality TV. WHen you see these guys doing things like climbing up rock faces, and making it look difficult to carry their camera, and tripod, just think about the video guy who has the larger camera, and has to move all around that rock face on a rope to get those shots. I respect them far more than the Lik types.

The Weather Channel is not why his images bring big money. He was getting big money for his images long before the Weather Channel, in fact that is why he was on the Weather Channel. He is not a newbie in the photography world. I became aware of his work years ago at his gallery in San Francisco in 2003. He was getting big money back then. He knows what the general public wants and he knows how to market his work. When you go to one of his galleries, the large images are impressive. I don't know how many images he has sold for 100,000 but the majority of his prints sell for a couple of thousand. Is his stuff over the top? Yes, it probably is, but that's why it sells and makes him big money.

You almost make him sound like the Bear Grylls of photography.
Oh man I loathe Bear Grylls. "Now watch as I jump into this freezing cold lake for no reason at all!"

I actually liked the show, you didn't learn much as others. But it was entertaining.

True, matter of fact he was the first to break $1,000,000 for a single photo. "One". Which has a very interesting story behind it.

I googled this because I was curious: www.peterlikexposed.com/archives/237

That's actually a pretty cool looking picture. And an even cooler pay day. If I ever sell a photo for even like .1% of that I'd feel like an incredible success.
