Need advice on how to get over jitters on first wedding job

10 years 3 months ago #342647 by Sue Bidwell
As I pointed out in my intro, I have been taking photos of family and friends for a few years and now moving out to my first wedding photography job.  Actually it's next week and I'm finding myself excited, but very nervous.  I know I can do this.  But just having anxiety attacks!  How can you prep and condition your self for your first paying job?

Please, any tips would be appreciated.

More info required, like are you the lone shooter? First wedding including assisting a photographer? Are you thoroughly competent with your gear? The confidence that you know what you're doing is 99% of the battle.....

Have you built a good close relationship with your client, for me this always keeps stress down for me.  The times that I didn't have a close relationship always seemed to result in greater stress.  When you know the people, you have a good understanding of what they want, who they are and at least for me, I feel like a guest enjoying their day vs paid.

Go through what you're going to do.
Athletes call it 'visualization'.
You imagine yourself doing the task successfully.
After a few times doing that, you're mind thinks you HAVE done it, and the anxiety lessens.

Make sure you have 2 of everything and a backup plan for equipment failures, bad weather, drunk participants..........
Get there EARLY and scout the location(s). Never be the one holding things up.
Bring a sewing kit, and gaffer tape. Both can be used for emergency gown fixes.
Make sure that you're hydrated. And fed. Dehydration/Low blood sugar can make you pass out.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
