Black vs Gray walls

10 years 3 months ago #346187 by Scott Klubeck
Anyone have space set up in their homes for photography studio?  What color are your walls?  I bought black paint and it's dark!  I'm wondering if I could get away with gray walls instead.  What do you think?  I'm of course looking to cut down on light bouncing around.

I would probably elect thundercloud gray (flat) and really heavy curtains.  Dark without being dungeon-like.

Instead of neutral grey, I would go for a muted color, like dark coffee grounds.  Just to keep my spirits up, not any technical reason.

You're all racist. What's wrong with being black?!

:P

Do you plan to shoot against the backgrounds?  IF so a darker grey can easily be turned into black in post production.

:agree: Goofy looking red ninja is correct here.  Go with the dark grey and in post, getting the black you want will be a cinch

all the research I have done points to black for studio walls, but if it was in a home where the room was being used for other things then I would go with Gray...
