Sony sensors best for low ISO shooting?

10 years 2 months ago #351093 by JD Imagery
I have a Nikon D600 and D800 and recently learned that these cameras have a Sony sensor him them.  Looking around I found a blog that posted that Sony sensors that are in cameras like the Nikon D600, D610, D4, Df, D800 and then of course Sony's own a99 are some of the better cameras for low ISO shooting.

Is that why Nikon and Sony both don't have as many f/1.2 and f/1.4 lenses as Canon does?

Why doesn't Nikon make their own sensors for these cameras?  Does Canon use someone else s sensor in their cameras?

Too poor.  No.

That can't be the real reason, it's Nikon, I'm sure they have plenty of money.

Nikon chooses to use Sony sensors because it works for them at this point. Now that could change later. Also all they have to work on is how they are going to write the algorithms to utilize that sensor, which I might add they have done very well ISO wise.

Actually with Sony's latest earnings numbers it is the other way around. If Nikon chose to start making their own sensors, or went to another vendor, Sony would lose a lot more money.

I read something recently that said the Playstation is Sony's biggest money maker right now.  I wondering how long their contract is with Nikon.  Boy imagine them going under, then chain reaction Nikon goes under because they can't produce replacement sensors fast enough?!

Not economically viable (AKA they're too poor).

Did those numbers included sales from their new PS4?

Yes those numbers are the aggregate for the company as a whole. Then they break down which divisions were the money losers, as is no surprise that steamy pile of something you step in the Vaio was the top loser. If I remember correctly.
