Eye-Fi SD Wireless cards

These are looking pretty tempting and I'm tossing around the idea of picking up one.  They say this card will upload the images directly to your computer.  Is it that simple?

Let's see...

Wireless connection @ 54 Mbps (that's bits not bytes), which might translate to 5 MB / s, on a good day.

Image size of 16 GB (you are shooting RAW, right?) or larger for a current DSLR.

That's 16000 / 5 = 2960 s, or almost 50 minutes to transfer a single RAW file. [edited to get the numbers right]

Ain't nobody got time for that.

If you're using JPGs, well, then, whatever works for you. Still sounds too slow. Why rely on having a computer nearby?

LOL... great break down Gary, I was going to type out something similar.  You just gave more detail than I would have!

I think these cards would be good for point and shoot with JPG files.  Even then, ehhhh

The inherent problem with these cards is the current speed limitations in transfer rates

My wife uses one of these and she doesn't like because it's quicker just to take the card out and download with card reader
