Has anyone had the chance to see the Northern Lights? Have you taken pictures of the northern lights? What type of settings does one need to photograph such an event?

:agree: I have read that article before. I would love to shoot the northern lights, but I don't see that happening in this life time.

I'd love to photograph them someday. I'm a little too far south though, as is most of the world's population. I'd assume a fast lens with a shutter 1/10 second or faster would be a plus, because the northern lights have defined shape and long exposures would just give you blobs of color.

My uncle lived in Alaska for 20 years or so and successsfully shot the lights- i will have to ask him what he remembers using to get them so well

I'm not much for the extreme cold and you know it's cold up there! I'll pass ;)

I watched a movie called "The Thing" last night set in Antarctica, and it freaked the crap out of me. I'll pass on that :side:

Rob, how nice for him. Have you even seen the northern lights when visiting your uncle?
