Is your camera a "Professional Camera"?

9 years 5 months ago #415033 by Francis
I had seen a interesting discussion over the weekend on this subject.  I had always been under the impression that a professional camera was something like the Nikon D3, Nikon D4, Canon 1Dx or similar.

Ready what others were typing would suggest that might not be the case.  Where do you stand on this?

Is your Nikon D300 or Canon 60D (examples) a professional camera in the big picture of things?

Its whom is using such gear that determines if the said camera body, and even lenses are pro or not.....;)

Why so serious?

I don't consider my Canon 50D to be professional, but out there in some 3rd world countries I expect it would be professional.  For a slug fest ask Oly OM-D M1 shooters if their camera is professional.

A "hammer" is only a professional hammer in the hands of a skilled craftsman.

I have seen some awesome shots taken with a Polaroid Swinger! :-)

Exactly, an experienced photographer can make a polaroid take great photos.  The camera is just an extension of the photographers skill set.

Nikon D300 24-70mm f2.8
70-200mm f2.8
50mm f1.4 & 50mm f1.8
105mm f2.8
2 SB800

Yep! That is what decides what is professional or not. Far too many people fall for the manufacturers advertizing departments hype that it is the equipment, and not the shooter that makes great images. According to the Nikon ad department my D300 is a Prosumer body. So I guess that makes me a prosuming photographer.

I must agree with most of the other folk here. It is the photographer not the camera.  Having said that, I do not think my little old cannon 60d would be considered an everyday camera.  I don't think my husband would let me pay that much for a Polaroid  .
