Soon, print will be a complete thing of the past.

Rather than out and out disagreeing, I'll ask: do you refer to magazines? Books? What?

There is nothing better than printing your images on paper/etc and hanging them on the wall. "Print" is not ever going to go away.

That's not what Hollywood futuristic movies would portray!

I'm going to agree with Gary on this topic.  Having a print in your hand is border line indescribably different in a very positive way.  I don't mean to discount getting published online, I just feel print at least right now today, is much more desirable.

magazine or digital, it's published either way.  Now if someone asks where, I don't try to hide or mask one over the other.

Same as those people who say they are published authors when they have actually self published an ebook on amazon

To be a published photographer it has to be in a print book or magazine that you have no affiliation with.

I'd have to disagree with you here. While I do have images that have been in "print" in magazines, I also had an image on National Geographic's "Your Shot" "Daily Dozen" back in The 4th week of October of 2007. While it didn't make the following months print edition, it's still an accomplishment since many thousands of entries are received by that entity...

Another point to be made here also is that in today's day & age, an image published online gets lots more views than one in a printed publication..

Should it really matter?  To some, getting published in print or online will light their world on fire, others not so.  Do and say what makes you happy.

Not in my mind it doesn't.  Published is published.
